Wizard Island, Volcanic island in Crater Lake, Oregon, US
The cinder cone formation rises 764 feet above Crater Lake's surface, featuring steep slopes and a crater called the Witches Cauldron at its summit.
The island emerged through volcanic processes after Mount Mazama's eruption 7,700 years ago, forming gradually as the caldera filled with water.
Native American tribes of the Pacific Northwest incorporated the formation of Crater Lake and Wizard Island into their traditional stories and beliefs.
Summer visitors can reach the island via boat tours from Cleetwood Cove, with hiking trails leading to the summit and around the crater.
Scientific studies reveal that Wizard Island represents only 2 percent of its total mass above water, with the majority of the structure hidden beneath the lake.
