Mount Scott, Volcanic summit in Crater Lake National Park, United States.
Mount Scott is a volcanic summit in Crater Lake National Park reaching about 2,720 meters (8,900 feet) and the highest point in the park. A two-story fire lookout tower sits at the peak, built from andesite rock that forms the entire mountain.
The peak was named after Levi Scott, an Oregon pioneer who founded the settlement of Scottsburg during westward expansion. This naming honored his role in settling the region.
The mountain holds deep meaning for the Modoc and Klamath peoples, who lived in this region long before European settlers arrived. Local communities see their history and identity connected to this land and its volcanic landscape.
The hike to the summit takes about two hours at a regular pace and requires good fitness due to the steep climb. Starting early in the day gives you plenty of daylight to enjoy the sweeping views from the top.
This peak formed about 420,000 years ago through andesitic lava flows and ranks among the older volcanic structures in the Oregon Cascades. Its age makes it geologically significant and sets it apart from younger volcanic formations in the area.
