Fort Washington State Park

Fort Washington State Park spans 493 acres of natural space with hiking trails, picnic areas, and an observation deck overlooking eastern Montgomery County.

The park contains the site of a temporary fort built in 1777 where General Washington stationed 11,000 troops during the Philadelphia campaign of the American Revolution.

From September through October, groups gather at the observation deck to monitor and document the migration patterns of 16 raptor species along the East Coast.

The park implements a carry-in-carry-out waste management system, requiring visitors to transport their garbage and recyclables back home as no collection facilities exist on site.

An electric vehicle charging station with two plugs stands in Parking Lot 5 near the Militia Hill Day Use Area for public access throughout operating hours.
