Foxburg Country Club, Golf course in Foxburg, Pennsylvania.
Foxburg Country Club is a nine-hole golf course situated on a hillside above the Allegheny River. The layout winds through oak groves, sycamores, maples and dogwood trees that cover the property throughout.
Joseph Mickle Fox founded the course in 1887 after learning golf fundamentals from Tom Morris Sr. at St. Andrews in Scotland. This connection to the Scottish roots of the sport shaped how the club developed.
The clubhouse contains the American Golf Hall of Fame, which displays a collection of historical golf equipment and artifacts from before 1900. The collection reflects how the sport evolved through the objects that players used over generations.
Visitors can book tee times online and enjoy food and drinks at the Hickory Sticks Pub. The establishment serves meals in a traditional setting for those who want to spend more time on the grounds.
Original stone structures from 1890, including a well house and golf-related troughs, still stand on the grounds today. These preserved buildings give the property a sense of its early golf heritage.
