Gatlinburg Arts and Crafts Community is a hub of artisan studios and galleries located along a loop road near Gatlinburg. The collection includes more than 100 spaces where craftspeople create and sell items ranging from pottery and glasswork to jewelry and wooden goods.
This gathering of artisans began in 1937 and has grown into the largest independent craftspeople organization in North America. The evolution reflects how a small creative community expanded to become an established destination for handmade goods.
The place reflects Appalachian traditions through artisans who work openly in their studios, allowing visitors to watch quilting, pottery, and woodworking unfold naturally. This daily creative work keeps regional craft knowledge alive and visible to everyone who passes through.
The loop road is accessible from Highway 321 North, a short drive from downtown, and every shop offers free parking. Since studios are spread along the route, traveling by car makes it easier to stop at each location at your own pace.
Many of the artisans demonstrate their craft daily in their personal studios, creating traditional items such as dulcimers and handmade brooms that visitors can watch being made. This direct view of the creative process happening in real time is what sets the place apart from typical galleries.
