Bullhead Trail, Mountain hiking trail in Sevier County, Tennessee.
Bullhead Trail is a hiking route through the Great Smoky Mountains that climbs steeply toward Mount Le Conte, passing over rocky terrain with many switchbacks throughout the ascent. The path is lined with thick forests and passes through different woodland types as it gains elevation.
The trail was developed as a formal hiking route after the Great Smoky Mountains National Park was created in 1934. It follows older paths that early settlers once used to cross through the mountain region.
Local rangers maintain interpretive programs along the trail, educating visitors about the mountain ecosystems and regional environmental conservation efforts.
The climb requires good physical fitness and proper footwear because of the steep grade and numerous switchbacks. Bring plenty of water and snacks from the start, as there are few rest stops along the way.
A notable feature is a rock formation shaped like a bull's head, visible from the side at several points during the climb. Many hikers miss this natural sculpture until more experienced walkers point it out to them.
