Mountain Creek Waterpark, Water park in Vernon, New Jersey
Mountain Creek Waterpark is a water park in Vernon, New Jersey, offering water slides, wave pools, and an artificial river in the hilly landscape of Vernon Valley. The facility spreads across several hectares with different zones for different age groups and preferences.
The site opened in 1978 as Action Park and was renamed Mountain Creek Waterpark in 1998. Between 2014 and 2016, the facility temporarily returned to its original name before becoming Mountain Creek permanently.
The name Mountain Creek comes from the ski resort on the same grounds and refers to the hilly terrain of Vernon Valley. Families from the New York metropolitan area use the park on summer weekends as a day trip destination with picnic areas and changing facilities.
The park sits in hilly terrain, so comfortable shoes for walking between attractions are recommended. Lockers and changing cabins are located near the main entrances and make organizing valuables easier.
The facility uses the same grounds as a winter sports center, so the ski slopes become paths between water areas in summer. This dual use allows year-round operation with shifting activities depending on the season.
