Oliver Building

The Oliver Building is a 25-story skyscraper in downtown Pittsburgh with a steel frame covered in stone and terra cotta cladding along Smithfield Street. The structure houses office spaces on its lower floors and hotel rooms occupying the upper portion of the tower.

The building was designed and completed in 1910 by the architectural firm D.H. Burnham & Company. It received designation as a historical landmark in 1974, recognizing its importance in Pittsburgh's architectural development.

The building displays the character of Pittsburgh's early skyscrapers through its blend of stone and terra cotta exterior that shapes the downtown skyline. Visitors can see how these materials create the distinctive appearance that defines this part of the city.

The building features 17 elevators serving the various floors and functions within the tower. Be aware that the lower levels are primarily office space while the upper floors operate as hotel accommodations.

The upper floors underwent renovation in 2015 to become a 228-room hotel while preserving the original architectural details from the early 1900s. This transformation allows the structure to honor its past while serving contemporary hospitality needs.
