BNY Mellon Center

The BNY Mellon Center is a modern skyscraper with an eight-sided shape and 55 floors located at 500 Grant Street in Downtown Pittsburgh. Its distinctive octagonal footprint sets it apart visually and houses corporate office space for various tenants.

Construction was completed in 1984, but the building was originally planned as headquarters for the Dravo Corporation before economic shifts led to its purchase by Mellon Financial Corporation. This change in ownership redirected the tower's purpose toward banking and financial services.

The building shows how Pittsburgh moved from making steel to working in finance, and you can sense that shift when you walk past its glass and metal surfaces. It became a symbol of the city's new identity as a business and banking center rather than just an industrial town.
