Frank & Seder Building, Classical Revival department store building in Downtown Pittsburgh, United States
The Frank & Seder Building at 441 Smithfield Street rises seven stories with polished stone walls and large first-floor display windows.
The original structure burned down in 1917, causing $600,000 in damages, leading to the construction of the current building completed in 1918.
Russian Jewish immigrants Jacob H. Frank and Isaac Seder transformed their wholesale clothing business into a retail chain spanning multiple major cities.
The building stands near the former Macy's department store and qualifies for federal investment tax credits under certified rehabilitation programs.
Current owner Stark Enterprises plans to convert the former retail space into Smith & Fifth, incorporating residential units, offices, and retail spaces.
