Pastorius Park

Pastorius Park is a green space covering approximately 16 acres in the residential area of Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia. The park features a central pond, walking trails, an amphitheater, and contains more than 200 labeled trees and shrubs throughout the grounds.

The park was designed by Frederick W.G. Peck in 1935, with its structures built in 1937 through the Works Progress Administration program during the New Deal era. This project emerged from a national effort to create and improve public spaces across America.

The park serves as a gathering space for Chestnut Hill residents, especially during outdoor concerts and community events held throughout the year. Locals use the grounds for strolling, socializing, and enjoying time with neighbors in their residential neighborhood.

The park is easily accessible by foot or car, with parking available nearby and train station access within walking distance. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes for the walking trails and prepare for seasonal weather conditions.

The park is working toward recognition as a Level 1 ArbNet accredited arboretum through its extensive tree and shrub labeling program. This initiative makes it a notable location for studying and learning about different plant species in the region.
