Pleasant Lake, Lake in New Hampshire, United States
Pleasant Lake is a lake in Merrimack County, New Hampshire, near the town of New London. A small island called Blueberry Island sits in the middle of the lake, and the village of Elkins lies at its eastern end.
The lake has been part of everyday life in the region for generations, used for fishing, boating, and gathering. Blueberry Island, now known by that name, appeared on old maps under the name Granite Friends Island.
Visitors can swim at Elkins Beach, and a public boat launch near the Pleasant Lake Dam makes it easy to get out on the water. Jet skis are not allowed on the lake, so small boats and kayaks are the common choice.
In 1914, a landlocked salmon caught here set a state record, measuring over 3 feet (about 90 cm) long and weighing more than 18 pounds (about 8 kg). The lake drains into the Blackwater River, which flows into the Merrimack River and eventually reaches the sea.
