The Rice House stretches across 6,000 square feet along a granite ridge, featuring marble from Georgia and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the James River.

Architect Richard Neutra designed this residence between 1962 and 1965 for Walter Rice, a Reynolds Metals Company executive and United States Ambassador to Australia.

The structure represents a rare example of International Style architecture in Richmond, incorporating horizontal elements, concrete facades, and layered flat roofs.

The property occupies 4.5 acres at 1000 Old Locke Lane, positioned 110 feet above the James River with views of Williams Dam.

Natural light flows through extensive glass panels and sliding doors, while the house integrates interior spaces with exterior features through calculated structural elements.
