Saint Ann's School, University-preparatory school in Brooklyn Heights, United States
The school spreads across a 15-story building and two connected brownstone houses in central Brooklyn Heights. The rooms serve all grades from preschool to twelfth grade and occupy multiple floors.
The institution opened in 1965 in the basement of St. Ann's Episcopal Church with 63 students. It later moved into the former Crescent Athletic Club House and gradually expanded the building complex.
The program uses no formal grades and encourages individual interests through personal conversations between students and teachers. This approach shapes daily routines and shows in how older students work independently.
The ratio of 6.3 students per teacher allows smaller groups and direct support throughout the school years. Visitors should contact the school in advance, as access to the building is limited during class hours.
Students in eleventh and twelfth grade design their own schedule without traditional exam grades and focus on cross-subject projects. This freedom extends to activities outside class where art and science often meet.
