The school was established in 1986 through the merger of St. Mary Academy, founded in 1846 by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and Monroe Catholic Central, established in 1944 by the Brothers of Holy Cross.
Operating under the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit, the school maintains its religious identity with the motto 'Living Faith, Gaining Knowledge, Serving Others' and draws students from fourteen parishes across the Monroe Vicariate.
