Basilica of St. Fidelis, Romanesque Revival basilica in Victoria, United States.
The Basilica of St. Fidelis is a Romanesque Revival church with twin towers built from native limestone, Indiana limestone, and Vermont marble. The interior features an Italian marble altar and demonstrates the craftsmanship that went into this structure.
Volga German immigrants from Russia built this church between 1908 and 1911 through significant community effort. Members of the congregation aged 12 and above contributed financially and hauled stone materials to construct it.
The interior displays hand-carved stations and stained glass windows made by Chicago artisans, showing how international craftspeople shaped this church. These works reflect the global connections of the community that built it.
Visitors can explore the building during daylight hours, with audio tours available in the west vestibule for self-guided exploration. Groups can arrange guided tours by coordinating in advance with staff.
The church received a special papal recognition in 2014 when it was designated as Kansas's first minor basilica. This distinction placed it among fewer than one hundred comparable churches across the United States.
