St. Stanislaus Institute, Former Catholic orphanage complex in Newport Township, Pennsylvania
The St. Stanislaus Institute encompasses three connected buildings and three independent structures across 4.1 acres of land in Luzerne County.
Built between 1918 and 1939, the complex features Spanish Revival architecture in its boys dormitory and Modern Movement elements in the Holy Child chapel.
The institute served as a dedicated orphanage for Polish children, reflecting the strong presence of Polish immigrant families in Pennsylvania during the early 1900s.
Located at 141 Old Newport Street, the institute contains multiple facilities including a laundry building, boiler room, rectory, and garage within its grounds.
The complex earned recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008, preserving its architectural legacy after closing its doors in 1972.
