Swetland Homestead, Historic house museum in Wyoming, Pennsylvania, United States.
The Swetland Homestead is a historic house with an L-shaped wood-frame structure sitting on 1.5 acres in Wyoming Valley. The building was constructed in 1797, grew through additions over the next 15 years, and received a four-column front porch in 1850.
The house was founded in 1797 and grew through family expansions over the next 15 years as the household changed. The family kept the property for more than 150 years before donating it to a local historical society in 1958.
The rooms inside display how family life evolved from farming to factory work through their furnishings and household items. Objects from the 1790s through 1860s show what mattered most to people during this shifting time.
Visits require advance scheduling through the Luzerne County Historical Society to arrange your tour. Parking is available on Colonial Lane but not along Swetland Lane where the house sits.
This property holds one of the oldest surviving homes in the Wyoming Valley, with each building phase visible in the changing architecture. The L-shaped design and added porch reveal how the same family adapted the structure across generations to fit their growing needs.
