Wellesley Island State Park, State Park in Thousand Islands, New York
Wellesley Island State Park spreads along the Saint Lawrence River and includes more than 430 campsites, several boat launches, and a full-service marina for water activities. The park also offers vacation rentals and various accommodation options to suit different visitors.
The land was settled in the 1890s as a small farming community until a private owner donated it to the state in the 1950s. This donation allowed the transformation into the state park that exists today.
The Minna Anthony Common Nature Center offers educational programs and displays about local ecosystems, where visitors can join guided tours and environmental workshops.
The park offers different types of accommodation, from basic campsites to equipped cabins and vacation houses. Visitors should note that some areas may be limited during certain seasons and water activities vary depending on weather conditions.
The park contains an internal water body called Lake of the Isles, which creates a distinctive network of different habitats within its boundaries. This inner landscape supports a remarkable variety of natural communities that makes the park a rare patchwork of different ecosystems.
