Dewolf Point State Park

Dewolf Point State Park is a compact waterfront park on Wellesley Island along the St. Lawrence River with stone structures, boat docks, and open green areas. The grounds include campsites and picnic spaces situated to overlook both the Lake of the Isles and the river below.

The area was established in 1898 as part of the St. Lawrence Reservation to provide public access to riverside landscapes. Its creation reflected early efforts to preserve this waterfront for recreation and public use.

The park sits on land that was home to the Haudenosaunee people for centuries before settlers arrived in the region. Today, visitors walk through spaces where these communities maintained their connection to the river and surrounding forests.

The park is open from late April through mid-September and provides camping, boat launching, fishing access, and picnic facilities for visitors. Most visitors arrive on weekends, especially during warmer months, so booking ahead is wise for overnight stays.

Many visitors overlook that this park serves as a first welcome point for travelers crossing from Canada into the United States via Thousand Islands Bridge. Its high visitor numbers reflect its role as an entry point where many travelers first pause on their journey.
