Heron Pond - Little Black Slough Nature Preserve is a large protected area with swamp forests, limestone bluffs, and various forest types. The wetland landscape is accessible through a boardwalk and several hiking trails that allow visitors to explore the terrain.

Access is from Highway 45 south of Vienna. The best time to visit is early morning when bird watching is most rewarding and wildlife is most active.
The site hosts some of the state's oldest bald cypress trees and a large heron nesting colony. This rare combination makes it special for nature lovers wanting to see these southern species at the northern edge of their natural range.
