The archaeological complex includes a mound structure and village remains spread across 40 acres along the Ohio River near Rosiclare.
The settlement existed from 900 to 1500 AD as a central location for Mississippian peoples who manufactured items from locally sourced fluorspar.
The excavations revealed multiple artifacts demonstrating trade connections between this manufacturing center and other regional settlements including the Kincaid Site.
The National Register of Historic Places includes detailed documentation about this site through the State Historic Preservation Office of Illinois.
The location contains substantial deposits of fluorspar, which indigenous inhabitants processed into decorative beads and carvings for regional trade networks.
