Homburg, District capital in Saarpfalz-Kreis, Germany.
Homburg is a town in the Saarpfalz-Kreis district in southeastern Saarland that spreads across gentle hills and wooded valleys. The town connects residential areas with commercial and medical centers, while parks and green spaces link the different neighborhoods together.
Settlement began in Roman times, when merchants and soldiers rested at this spot. In the 12th century the Hohenburg became the seat of the Counts of Homburg, who shaped the area until the 18th century.
The name comes from the medieval Hohenburg castle that once stood above the valley and shaped the town's identity. Today modern clinics and residential neighborhoods define the cityscape, while the old town with its half-timbered houses still recalls earlier times.
The town is easy to reach by train, as several lines stop here and offer connections in all directions. Those arriving by car will find sufficient parking near the center and the main facilities.
The University Hospital of Saarland draws many professionals from across the region and shapes daily life in town. This concentration of jobs makes the town an unusually dense economic hub in Saarland.
