Trinitatiskirche, Renaissance church in Gera, Germany
The Trinitatiskirche is a Renaissance-style house of worship in Gera located at the intersection of Heinrichstrasse and Talstrasse. A prominent tower on the east side was added in 1899 and defines the building's external appearance.
Simon Reisig constructed this building between 1609 and 1611 as a cemetery chapel serving burial purposes. It was elevated to the status of a parish church in 1886 to serve the southern districts of Gera.
The interior features decorated wooden ceilings depicting scenes from the Old Testament and a sandstone epitaph of Chancellor Johann von Freiesleben on the eastern choir wall. These elements reflect the spiritual importance this place held for believers in the southern districts.
The building sits centrally in Gera at Talstrasse 2 and is easy to reach on foot. The exterior received thorough maintenance work in 1986, so the current condition appears well-maintained.
A bell cast in 1518 is among the oldest objects here and survived World War II by chance. It was found in Hamburg after the war and returned to Gera in 1969.
