Basingstoke and Deane

Basingstoke and Deane extends across the western edge of the North Downs, encompassing the towns of Basingstoke, Tadley, and Whitchurch along with numerous rural villages.

The district formed in 1974 under the Local Government Act and received its current name in 1978 when granted borough status to represent both urban and rural areas.

The district maintains multiple performance venues, including The Anvil theater, where regional orchestras and touring productions regularly perform throughout the year.

The Borough Council manages essential services including waste collection, planning applications, housing assistance programs, and community support through their central offices in Basingstoke.

The borough contains sections of the North Wessex Downs, designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, featuring chalk formations and protected landscapes.
