Shipman Knotts, Mountain summit in Cumbria, England.
Shipman Knotts is a mountain summit in Cumbria rising to 587 meters with three rocky hummocks marking its crown. The middle section of these formations reaches the highest elevation point of the peak.
This summit gained recognition when Alfred Wainwright documented Lake District peaks in the mid-20th century. Its inclusion in his work established it as a known climbing destination for the region.
Local climbing enthusiasts regularly incorporate Shipman Knotts into the Kentmere horseshoe circuit, a 19-kilometer route connecting multiple Lake District summits.
Hikers reach the summit by following a track ascending westward from Longsleddale valley and crossing a mountain pass at 350 meters. Different routes up the slope suit varying fitness levels and time available.
The eastern face drops steeply with exposed rock crags called Rough Crags and Goat Scar, while the western side slopes gently toward Kentmere. This contrast creates two distinctly different climbing experiences on either side.
