Gosashi tomb, Ancient burial mound in Misasagi-chō, Japan

The Gosashi tomb extends 275 meters in length with a circular rear section of 195 meters in diameter and a square front measuring 155 meters wide.

Research conducted in 2008 by the Imperial Household Agency revealed a line of cylindrical haniwa clay figures along the eastern side of the square front section.

The construction of this keyhole-shaped tomb required substantial labor forces, demonstrating the power structure and organizational capabilities of ancient Japanese society.

The Imperial Household Agency maintains strict access control to the tomb, permitting limited research activities while preserving its archaeological integrity.

Archaeological evidence connects this burial site to Empress Jingu, marking it as one of the few imperial tombs from the early Kofun period.
