Mount Daibosatsu is a 2,057-meter (6,748 ft) summit in Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park composed of sedimentary rock formations. Multiple hiking trails wind through the mountain, offering different routes and difficulty levels to the top.
A mountain pass here served as a key section of the Ome Kaido trade route during the Edo period. The pass was used to transport limestone to Edo through the nearby Taba-shuku post station.
The mountain takes its name from a warrior who is said to have invoked the War God Hachiman here during ancient times. This connection to spiritual tradition remains part of how locals and visitors understand the place.
The mountain can be reached via the Hashidate-shita bus stop, which has regular service from Okutama Station. This bus connection makes it relatively easy to reach the trailhead for most hiking routes.
The mountain appears on Japan's list of 100 Famous Mountains and serves as habitat for Japanese martens and sika deer. This wildlife presence makes it especially rewarding for nature observers to visit.
