金剛寺, Buddhist temple in Gamagori, Japan
Kongoji Temple sits at the summit of Mount Hobo with views toward Mikawa Bay and Gamagori City below. A 30-meter-tall Koyasu Kobo Daishi statue stands as the main focal point of the grounds.
The temple was founded between 806 and 810 by Kukai, a Buddhist monk also known as Kobo Daishi, during the early medieval period. This early establishment gave the site its lasting importance as a spiritual center.
The temple serves as a place where people come to pray for safe childbirth and fertility through devotion to the Koyasu Kobo Daishi statue. Visitors bring personal wishes and hopes to this spiritual site.
The temple is reachable by taxi from JR Mikawa-Mitani Station in about 7 minutes or by walking from Minamiyamaguchi bus stop. The walking route involves climbing to the hilltop, so wear comfortable footwear.
The temple grounds feature Lovers Hill, where couples attach heart-shaped plates to the fences and write their wishes on them. This tradition has turned the spot into a symbol of romantic connection.
