Kongouchou-ji, Buddhist temple in Muroto, Japan
The main hall of Kongouchou-ji extends over 4,200 square meters, featuring traditional architectural elements and intricate wooden carvings throughout its structure.
Established during the Heian Period after Kobo Daishi returned from China, this temple stands as the 26th stop along the Shikoku Pilgrimage route.
The temple holds regular Ajikan meditation sessions between July and November, where participants concentrate on the Sanskrit letter A in designated spaces.
Visitors must remove their shoes before entering the temple buildings and can access the site via the Nankai Koyasan Cable from Gokurakubashi station.
The Willow Room within the temple complex preserves historical significance as the location where Toyotomi Hidetsugu performed ritual suicide.
