Butsuryū-ji, Buddhist temple in Uda, Japan.
The temple features a significant stone chamber with a five-tiered stone monument and a thirteen-tiered stone pagoda dated from 1330.
Founded in 850 by Kenne, a disciple of Kukai, Butsuryu-ji Temple served as the southern gate of Murouji Temple during its early history.
The temple holds considerable importance as the birthplace of Yamato tea cultivation, following the introduction of tea seeds and grinding stones from Tang Dynasty China.
Visitors can access the temple by taking a bus from Kintetsu Haibara Station to Takai stop, followed by a 30-minute walk through the mountainous terrain.
The temple grounds contain a 900-year-old mountain cherry tree and 197 stone steps, which were once flanked by extensive clusters of white spider lilies.
