Hase Dam

Hase Dam is a concrete gravity structure built across the valley in Sakurai, where the weight of the structure itself holds back water for the region. The project supplies water for local communities and helps control seasonal flooding in the area.

Construction of the dam was completed in 1987 to address growing water management needs in Nara Prefecture. The project represented a modern solution to handle both water supply demands and flood control challenges of that era.

The dam exists near Hase-dera temple complex, forming part of the engineering heritage that characterizes modern Japanese infrastructure development.

The dam sits in a valley surrounded by hills and can be viewed from several vantage points along the roadside. The clearest view of its full scale comes from the main roads that pass nearby, offering good photo opportunities from different angles.
