Ōbara-dera temple ruins, Buddhist temple ruins in Sakurai, Japan.
The stone foundations of the temple complex include a pagoda base measuring 10 meters on each side, with surrounding structural remains spread across the grounds.
Archaeological excavations in 1985 revealed foundation stones of the Main Hall, Lecture Hall, and a central foundation stone measuring 2.9 x 2.8 meters with a 65-centimeter hole.
The temple layout shares similarities with Hokki-ji in Ikaruga, demonstrating standardized architectural patterns in Japanese Buddhist structures of the Hakuhō period.
The archaeological site maintains regular visiting hours and connects to Sakurai Station through local transportation routes, offering access to additional regional heritage locations.
The roof tiles discovered at the site date the temple construction to before the latter half of the 8th century, yet no historical records mention its original name.
