Saint Adalbert cemetery in Poznań

Saint Adalbert cemetery is a burial ground on the Hill of Saint Adalbert covering two hectares divided into nine sections. Paths established in the 19th century connect these areas and structure the entire site.

The cemetery was founded in 1834 and quickly became an important burial place for notable figures in Poznań. Its development during the 19th century reflects the city's growth and transformation.

Named after Saint Adalbert, this cemetery serves as a quiet gathering place where generations of Poznań residents have found their rest. The lapidarium in the southwestern section shows how the city preserves and honors its historical grave monuments.

The site is located between Tadeusz Kosciuszki Street and Ksiecia Jozefa Street, with the Discalced Carmelites monastery bordering it to the south. The hillside location provides natural landmarks for orientation while exploring.

In the northeastern section lies a meadow where people who died during cholera epidemics between 1831 and 1873 were buried. This quiet area marks a period of hardship that the city endured.
