Bell of Peace and Friendship Among Nations, Peace monument in Citadel Park, Poznań, Poland.
The Bell of Peace and Friendship Among Nations is an architectural structure in Citadel Park standing 16 meters tall with a slender metal frame supporting an 850-kilogram bell. The modern design rises from the landscape with clean lines and creates a striking vertical presence in the park.
The memorial was erected in 1986 on Winiary Hill, where Fort Winiary served as the last German defensive position during World War II. The fort fell to Allied forces on February 23, 1945, marking the city's liberation.
The bell features an embossed dove symbolizing connection and understanding between peoples. On Liberation Day, its ringing reminds those nearby of the message of friendship and shared humanity.
The best way to reach the bell is to walk to Citadel Park from central Poznań, which sits atop Winiary Hill. Comfortable shoes are recommended since the terrain is hilly and the walk from the city center takes about half an hour.
The bell's sound travels across about 10 kilometers of Poznań, making it an audible landmark heard throughout distant neighborhoods. This reach means people across much of the city recognize its distinctive tone when it rings.
