Capu Midia Training Range

Capu Midia Training Range is a military facility on the Romanian Black Sea coast near Constanța with extensive firing grounds and infrastructure for air defense operations. The installation contains dedicated zones for missile launches, equipment testing, and different types of combat training activities.

The facility originated in 1950 as an evolution of an air defense training center originally established in Bucharest in 1938, which relocated to its current coastal location in 1951. This relocation allowed specialized exercises under realistic conditions near the strategic Black Sea region.

The facility bears the name of Brigadier General Ion Bungescu, reflecting Romanian military traditions and dedication to national defense preparation.

The facility is located along the coast and offers varying conditions for training activities depending on the season. Visitors should note that the proximity to the sea and open surroundings mean that weather and light conditions can affect visibility.

The site hosted Romania's first live-fire test of the Patriot surface-to-air missile system, which represented an important milestone in modernizing national air defense capabilities. This event demonstrated the advanced infrastructure available at this training location.
