New Point Comfort Natural Area Preserve

New Point Comfort Natural Area Preserve is a protected natural area along the Chesapeake Bay featuring tidal salt marsh, maritime forest, and sandy beach habitats. These varied environments create a diverse ecosystem where land and water ecosystems meet and interact.

The Nature Conservancy acquired this land to protect important Chesapeake Bay habitats. This conservation effort emerged from the need to preserve the region's essential coastal ecosystems.

The preserve functions as a research location for scientists studying the northeastern beach tiger beetle, a federally listed threatened species.

An observation deck and boardwalk provide access over the salt marshes with views toward Mobjack Bay. Arriving early in the day increases chances of seeing wildlife and experiencing the area in quieter conditions.
