Allamuchy Mountain, Mountain summit in Byram Township, United States
Allamuchy Mountain is a summit in the New York-New Jersey Highlands, part of the Reading Prong geological formation. The peak reaches approximately 1,220 feet (370 m) and shapes the landscape where the Musconetcong Creek flows below.
The area appeared in 1834 records as hills bordering the Musconetcong Creek valley and provided early settlers with natural resources like water and timber. This location made the region an important place for early settlement and development.
The mountain supports local environmental conservation through organizations that monitor and protect native plant and animal species in the region.
Access is by the Highland Trail from the Earthworm Parking Lot near Waterloo Village. The trail system connects with the Sussex Branch Trail network for multiple hiking options in the area.
The mountain creates a natural water divide between two rivers: the Musconetcong River to the southeast and the Pequest River to the northwest. This geographic split shapes how water flows across the entire valley.
