Lewis Ginter built the Lakeside Wheel Club in 1895 as a gathering space for cycling enthusiasts who rode along the cinder-paved Missing Link Trail.
The building evolved from a cycling club to a tuberculosis care center, then into a private residence named Bloemendaal, reflecting changing social needs.
The structure now functions as part of Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, maintaining its connection to nature through surrounding gardens and outdoor spaces.
Grace Arents transformed the property multiple times, from a cycling club to a children's hospital, before making it her residence with companion Mary Garland Smith.
