Merchant Building, Mixed-use tower in downtown Columbus, Ohio, US
The Merchant Building is a 32-story tower in downtown Columbus, Ohio, combining residential units, office space, and a boutique hotel within a single structure. The tower is currently under construction and is expected to open in 2026.
During excavation, workers uncovered human remains and artifacts from a former cemetery that once occupied the site. This discovery influenced how the project was then planned and developed going forward.
The Merchant Building stands next to the North Market, one of the oldest public markets in the city, where local vendors have sold their goods for generations. The building's name directly references this trading tradition that has long shaped this part of downtown.
The building is still under construction, so access to the site is not possible for visitors at this time. The location sits close to the North Market and other downtown attractions that can be visited in the meantime.
The tower is planned to include parking for around 350 vehicles, which is an unusually large number for a mixed-use building in a dense urban core. This reflects how car-dependent Columbus remains even in its most central neighborhoods.
