Squibb Park Bridge, Suspension footbridge in Brooklyn Heights, United States
Squibb Park Bridge is a steel footbridge that spans 450 feet (137 meters) through the air, connecting Brooklyn Bridge Park at Pier 1 to Squibb Park in Brooklyn Heights. Its structure follows a distinctive zigzag pattern to bridge the different elevations between the two areas.
The original timber bridge opened in 2013 but had to be completely demolished in 2020 due to structural issues. The current steel structure replaced that early version and provides a more permanent solution for connecting these two areas.
The bridge takes its name from Edward Robinson Squibb, a pharmaceutical pioneer who opened his first laboratory near Furman Street. This industrial heritage remains part of the neighborhood's identity as you cross the structure.
The bridge is accessible during daylight hours but has limited access during early mornings and evenings. Keep in mind that bicycles, scooters, and skateboards must be walked across rather than ridden.
The zigzag shape of the bridge creates several natural stopping points that offer different views of the Lower Manhattan skyline. These turns also help make the steep elevation change between the park and street more manageable.
