The Thermopolis Swinging Bridge extends 1,200 feet across the Big Horn River, connecting both sides of Hot Springs State Park with steel cables and wooden planks.
Built in 1916 to connect Big Spring with Fremont Spring, the bridge provided essential access to the Pleasant View Hotel, Sanitarium, and the first county hospital.
This pedestrian crossing represents early 20th-century engineering methods, demonstrating the practical solutions developed for connecting communities separated by the Big Horn River.
Visitors can access both sides of Hot Springs State Park via this bridge, which underwent complete restoration by the North Dakota National Guard in 1992.
The bridge builder used a postcard of the Golden Gate Bridge as reference material to construct this Wyoming crossing, completing the project for just 1,250 dollars.
