Bukhara specialized nursery "Jayron", Wildlife conservation center in Bukhara District, Uzbekistan
The Bukhara specialized nursery "Jayron" is a protected area and zakaznik in Bukhara District, Uzbekistan, set up to breed and safeguard endangered desert animals. The grounds consist of open sandy terrain and dry scrubland that closely mirrors the natural habitat of the species kept here.
The site was founded in the 1970s as a response to the rapid decline of several animal species native to Central Asian steppes and deserts. Over the following decades, animal populations grew steadily and the facility became one of the main breeding centers in the region.
The reserve is known for housing rare animals such as Przewalski's horses, Bukhara deer, and Turkmen kulans that roam freely across open terrain. Visitors who pass through the grounds often spot these animals at close range without much effort.
The grounds cover a large open area of desert terrain, so bringing water and wearing sun protection is a practical necessity. The early morning hours and late afternoon tend to be the best times to observe animals moving around the site.
Alongside its large mammals, the site shelters more than 200 plant species and a wide range of bird species that live in the desert year-round. This makes the reserve of interest to birdwatchers and plant enthusiasts, even though the large animals tend to draw most of the attention.
