Z Experimental Station, Intelligence radio facility in Mooroobool, Cairns, Australia
The Z Experimental Station operates from a strategic location in Queensland, focusing on signal intelligence and communication monitoring activities.
Established in July 1942 at Munro Terrace, the station served as a joint facility between Secret Intelligence Australia and the Inter-Allied Services Department.
The facility contributed to regional security by training Indonesian operatives and coordinating operations with multiple intelligence organizations across the Pacific region.
The station's position at coordinates 16°56'8.9"S and 145°44'19.0"E provided excellent radio reception conditions for intelligence gathering operations.
The station conducted the first testing of Hoehn military folboats, which later became essential equipment for Pacific theater operations during World War II.
