Cairns Pop-Up Arena

Cairns Pop-Up Arena was a converted hall with a floor space of about 6,500 square meters, outfitted with grandstand seating, video display boards, and broadcast lighting systems for sports events. The facility accommodated approximately 2,000 spectators and included air conditioning, changing rooms, and catering facilities throughout.

In July 2020, a former Bunnings Warehouse building was transformed into a temporary stadium while the Cairns Convention Centre was being redeveloped. Following its time as a sports venue, the building was later converted into a film production space.

The venue served as a home for local basketball and netball teams, drawing fans who gathered to watch competitive matches and support their teams. It became a central spot for the city's sports community to come together throughout its operating period.

The venue provided both sports and multimedia facilities that were accessible for different types of events, with clear navigation between zones. Visitors could easily move around the space, as the layout was straightforward with good indoor and outdoor areas.

The building was originally a retail warehouse that was quickly converted into a sports center before undergoing a second transformation into a film studio. This sequence of repurposing demonstrates how industrial structures in the city found new roles over time.
