Aiguille de Praina, Alpine summit in Bourg Saint Maurice, France
Aiguille de Praina is a rocky summit in the Beaufortain range rising to 2607 meters above sea level. The peak features steep faces and accessible routes that pass through mountain chalets and meadows on their way to the top.
The peak was first reached during winter in 2005 and quickly attracted ski mountaineers from the surrounding area. The route then became popular among backcountry skiers exploring the French Alps.
Local mountaineers frequent this peak throughout winter seasons, maintaining the traditions of Alpine skiing that define the Savoie region.
Hikers start from Bourg Saint Maurice and follow marked trails through the Plan Andre valley up toward the mountain chalets. Visitors should bring full day-hiking gear as the route takes roughly four hours and weather can change quickly in the mountains.
Below the summit sits a small rocky outcrop with an engraved chamois carved into the stone, serving as a landmark for climbers along the route. This simple detail often goes unnoticed by visitors but marks an important point during the ascent.
