Green's Lodge Battery, Artillery battery on the North Face of Gibraltar.
Green's Lodge Battery is an artillery fortification positioned on elevated ground on Gibraltar's North Face, featuring gun emplacements built from stone. The site commands views over the northern approaches to the Rock.
The battery was built in 1776 and served as a key defensive position during the Great Siege between 1779 and 1783. Those years proved crucial in determining Gibraltar's military future.
The battery takes its name from General Sir William Green, who served as chief engineer of Gibraltar and designed many of the Rock's defensive structures. It stands as a memorial to his influential role in shaping the territory's fortifications.
Visitors can reach the battery by following a nature trail that runs along Signal Station Road through natural terrain. Proper footwear helps when exploring the exposed ground around the fortifications.
Wild goats now roam the battery site and have made it their home on the rocky slopes. From here, visitors can see across to the airport runway, the nearby cemetery, and the Spanish border town beyond.
