Château d'Imaishiro, Medieval fortress in Ome, Japan
The Imai Castle stands on an elevated plateau with remnants of earthen walls and double moats carved into the natural terrain.
Built before 1416, the castle served as a strategic stronghold for the Kodama clan until it fell under the control of the Hojo clan in the 16th century.
The fortress represents the architectural methods of Japanese castle construction, featuring defensive structures integrated into the natural landscape.
Visitors can reach the castle ruins by taking a 20-minute bus ride from Kawabe Station on the JR Ome Line.
The castle site maintains its original double dry moats and elevated baileys despite being surrounded by modern residential developments.
