Banteay Srey Butterfly Centre, Butterfly and conservation center in Banteay Srei District, Cambodia.
The Banteay Srey Butterfly Centre is a contained garden space with netting where free-flying butterflies from more than 30 native Cambodian species move through interconnected viewing sections. Display areas show insects at different life stages, from eggs and caterpillars through to adult wings.
The facility was founded in 2009 by butterfly experts who brought experience from establishing a similar center in East Africa. This background helped shape the center's approach to education and species protection.
The center supports local farming communities through training programs that help them earn money by breeding butterflies sustainably. This work strengthens economic opportunities in the villages around the site.
The site is located north of Siem Reap on the route to the nearby temple and welcomes visitors throughout the day. Butterflies are most active and visible in cooler morning and late afternoon hours, making these times better for observing their behavior.
Visitors can watch butterflies at every stage of growth, yet few know this is one of the largest enclosed butterfly displays in Southeast Asia. The scale allows the center to show many native species at once, offering a complete picture of local butterfly diversity.
