Arco de Salinas, Concrete arch gate in Salinas, Uruguay.
Arco de Salinas is a white concrete gateway at the entrance of Avenida Julieta that spans approximately 10.8 meters wide. The structure stretches about 24 meters in length and features a tower section decorated with ceramic tiles.
The gateway was designed in 1954 by architect Omar Ariasi at the request of notary Hildebrando Berenguer to mark the city's entrance. The structure was created to establish a recognizable landmark for the coastal town.
The tower displays ceramic tiles showing local elements such as pine trees, the obelisk, and albatrosses that represent the region's wildlife. These images tell the story of the natural surroundings that shape Salinas.
The gateway is easily accessible from the street and visible from various angles, allowing you to see the details clearly. It is best visited during daylight hours to fully appreciate the ceramic tiles and white finish.
A fountain stands at the base of the tower where locals traditionally toss coins and make wishes. This everyday custom gives the place a special, lived-in quality.
